Maternity Studio Session FAQs

What should I expect?

When you arrive at my home studio, feel free to park in the driveway. Come to the studio door (generally I will be there to greet you). We will sit down and have a chat to get to know each other a little more before we get into the session. If you are bringing any other children, I will chat to them to help them feel more relaxed before I try and take their photo. I suggest we start with photos of just mum then mum and dad so that the child can see what to expect and that it's not too scary for them.

I try and make the experience as relaxed and enjoyable as possible and generally don't have a time limit on sessions. It's so important that you are comfortable as that is where we get the best photos.

Rather than completely "posed" photos, I tend to encourage genuine laughter and interactions. Sometimes we may play some games to get the authentic smiles, because lets face it, noone wants photos with stiff smiles hanging on their walls!

What do I bring?

Here in my studio, I have a basket of goodies from hair clips to safety pins, hair spray to baby wipes so don't stress.

If there is something of significance to you/your baby that perhaps nanna has made, feel free to bring it along and we can incorporate that into the session, just let me know beforehand so I can plan for it :-)

Otherwise, if you are bringing any other children, perhaps bring his/her favourite toy and some non-messy snacks (we all know, a hungry child is not fun)!

What do I wear?

The most important thing is that you are comfortable!

I suggest you bring 3 outfits, a couple of casual and a more dressy style too. Then if you have anyone coming in with you such as a partner or other siblings, you can match them to you.

The colours should compliment each other if possible but not match exactly. If you try for neutral tones with a touch of colour that works quite well.

Things to avoid:

  • Solid black

  • Stripes

  • Baggy clothing

  • Tracksuits

  • Fluorescent clothing

Remember, this is just a guide. The most important thing is that you are comfortable! If you are unsure, just ask me and I am happy to help you out!
